Students will listen to a newscast of their choice from the link provided and summarize a news story to share in class: Breaking News English
Week 4 Activities
Identify a situation that you find difficult to discuss; look up appropriate vocabulary words and prepare a short dialogue; also, read the following: Dialogues
Week 5 Activities
Bring a paragraph you have written for one of your courses to read to your classmates—your classmates will give constructive feedback
Week 6 Activities
Watch a Film or TV clip on a streaming app. Bring the clip to class on your device. You may do one of the following: 1. dub the clip, or 2. give a live performance of your lip sync skills; be sure to be able to summarize the show, the episode, and the scene.
Week 7 Activities
Study the handouts on sequencers and prepositions of place, so that you will be able to give directions to places on maps.
Week 8 Activities
Listen to a song provided by the teacher and write an imitation of the lyrics. Analyze the lyrics of the original song.
Week 9 Activities
Watch a Ted Talk and give short extemporaneous response to your classmates.
Weeks 10 to 14 – Debates and Panel Discussion Instructions
Week 10 – Debate 1: group panel debate sample watching (watch group debate sample; discuss and analyze)
Week 11 – Debate 2: group panel debate within each section (with opening statement, question, answer, rebuttal and closing statement). Students must research information on topics beforehand.
